Light + Building 2026 Frankfurt — A Glimpse into the Future of Lighting

Light + Building 2026 RCG Lighthouse

From March 8 to 13, our team travelled to Frankfurt to attend one of the most significant events in the lighting and building technology sector — Light + Building 2026. Held every two years at the Messe Frankfurt exhibition centre, this is the world’s leading trade fair where lighting industry professionals, manufacturers, architects, designers, engineers, and communications systems developers come together to discuss future trends and showcase the latest solutions.

More Than 1,900 Participants from Around the World

This year’s exhibition brought together an impressive number of participants — 1,927 exhibitors from 49 countries and a total of around 150,000 visitors from 143 countries. These figures clearly demonstrate just how global and significant this event is for everyone working in lighting and smart building technology.

For us, as a lighting solutions company, this kind of international experience is invaluable — it offers the opportunity not only to explore the latest technologies, but also to get a feel for the direction the industry is heading on a global scale. This year, that experience was shared by everyone in our company, as we travelled there as an entire team!

This Year’s Theme: “Be Electrified”

The guiding motto of Light + Building 2026 was “Be Electrified — Electrifying Places. Illuminating Spaces.” — a call to recognise the role of electricity and lighting in today’s and tomorrow’s urban environments.

The exhibition was built around three core themes:

Sustainable Transformation — a focus on the role of energy efficiency solutions in achieving climate goals. This theme resonated strongly with us, as energy efficiency is at the very heart of RCG Lighthouse’s work — we offer our clients LED upgrades (including LED-to-LED replacements) with zero upfront investment and guaranteed savings.

Smart Connectivity — covering public infrastructure and building automation, IoT integration, and multi-functional control applications. The exhibition showed how lighting is becoming an integral part of broader smart infrastructure systems — not just light, but also data exchange, environmental response, and real-time management.

Living Light — the design and emotional impact dimension of lighting. Demonstrations showed how thoughtfully designed lighting shapes the atmosphere of a space, positively affects people’s wellbeing, and becomes an inseparable element of architectural expression.

See: What We Witnessed on the Exhibition Floor

During the event, we had the chance to witness several remarkable technological achievements:

Artificial intelligence in lighting. A growing number of manufacturers are integrating AI into their solutions — from adaptive lighting controls that can automatically adjust to how a space is being used, to predictive maintenance systems that alert users to fixture wear before a failure occurs.

Modular, scalable solutions for existing buildings. Particular attention was given to the retrofitting of existing (including historic) buildings — solutions that enable energy-efficient renovation without radical structural changes. This directly mirrors what RCG Lighthouse does every day across its projects.

Multi-functional lighting applications. New products combine lighting control with other building system elements — security, climate, communications — within a single compact interface.

Feel: Networking and the Industry Pulse

The most valuable part of any exhibition isn’t always what you find at the stands — it’s often the way the industry “breathes”. Conversations with representatives from European and Asian manufacturers, discussions about market trends, building new partnership contacts — all of this is part of what we brought home from Frankfurt.

The exhibition made one thing clear: the lighting industry is in active transformation. Most colleagues acknowledged that they were satisfied with the event and had achieved their goals — a testament to the fact that Light + Building remains the most important gathering for industry professionals.

Looking Ahead: What This Means for Our Clients

As a company that works on lighting modernisation in Latvia and the Baltics every day, we make a clear commitment: we will follow these trends, integrate the latest solutions into our projects, and ensure that our clients have access to the best available technologies. Inspired by the exhibition, and in order to keep pace with the industry, a decision was made to develop a new IoT product line. We aim to elevate it from simple automation to the level of an integrated, user-friendly system.

Frankfurt 2026 was a reminder that LED lighting is no longer just an energy efficiency tool — it is becoming a foundational element of smart, connected, and sustainable buildings.
