SIA RCG Lighthouse has successfully completed a lighting modernization project at three major sports facilities in Talsi — Talsi Sports House, Talsi Sports Hall, and the sports hall of Talsi State Gymnasium. The outdated luminaires have been replaced with modern, energy-efficient LED solutions in both the sports halls themselves and the buildings’ shared common areas.
Project Scope and Objective
The contract for the procurement “Installation of Energy-Efficient Luminaires in Talsi City Sports Halls” was signed on 24 September 2025, and the works were fully completed in March 2026. Over the course of the contract, lighting was modernized in five sports halls across three facilities, with approximately 500 LED luminaires of various types and capacities installed. The project covered not only the main sports areas but also the shared common spaces, ensuring a unified and energy-efficient lighting solution throughout the entire usable area of the modernized buildings.
The modernized halls form an important part of Talsi municipality’s sports infrastructure and are used daily for floorball, basketball, football, and volleyball training and competitions. They host Talsi municipality basketball and football championship matches and volleyball competitions, as well as national-level tournaments — matches of the Latvian Floorball Championship and the Latvian Youth Basketball League. Some of these competitions are also broadcast live, which means the halls require even, high-quality lighting that ensures good visibility for both athletes and spectators, as well as high-quality footage for broadcasts.
Accordingly, the project’s objective went beyond reducing electricity consumption. The new lighting also had to improve visibility on the court, athlete safety, and the spectator experience, while being suitable for competition broadcasts.
Technical Challenges and Solutions
When modernizing lighting in sports halls, it is common to encounter situations where the new lighting system must be integrated with a building’s existing infrastructure, room construction, and electrical wiring. At the same time, the solution must comply with current regulatory requirements and match the specific needs of the sports played in each hall, as well as the intensity of the space’s daily use. This requires evaluating, for each facility, the technical condition of the existing system, the possibilities for luminaire mounting and placement, the required lighting level and its uniformity, and the suitability of the solution for training sessions, competitions, and broadcasts.
At the Talsi sports halls as well, the most suitable technical solutions were identified for each facility during the course of the works, in order to successfully integrate the new LED luminaires into the existing infrastructure while ensuring high-quality, safe lighting that meets modern requirements.

Following the completion of the lighting modernization works, Talsi’s city sports halls now have energy-efficient, high-quality LED lighting for both daily training and competitions. The lighting modernization simultaneously reduces electricity consumption and the operating costs of the lighting system, while also improving the quality of the sports infrastructure and its suitability for intensive long-term use.
